First-Year Member Survey
Use First-Year Member Survey to give new members a clear first 90 days, early relationships and a useful way to contribute.
Developed further: this summary now draws on an initiative-specific internal editorial draft and attributed references. Human review has not started and will open only at the Full-Corpus Review Build.
What could this idea change?
A consistent welcome helps people build relationships sooner and understand how they can take part.
It may suit: New and prospective members, and the club members helping them settle in.
A simple way to start
- Write a one-page survey brief defining the two decisions the club needs to make, the eligible cohort, the day-90 and first-anniversary windows, and what will not be collected. Who could lead it: Membership chair
- Prepare the participant notice covering purpose, voluntary participation, confidentiality limits, access, storage, deletion date and who can answer a privacy question. Who could lead it: Club secretary or nominated privacy contact
- Test the questions with two recent members who are outside the live cohort, remove leading or double questions and confirm the survey can be completed in under seven minutes. Who could lead it: Survey coordinator
- Send one personal invitation, keep the survey open for ten days and issue no more than one reminder; offer a private supported completion route without the supporter seeing the answers. Who could lead it: Survey coordinator
- Analyse patterns rather than personalities, suppress very small response groups, separate direct comments from interpretation and identify no more than three practical issues for a board decision. Who could lead it: Survey coordinator with one independent reader
What should we look for?
- After 90 days, review First-Year Member Survey. Look for agreed early steps being completed, at least one useful club connection and every promised follow-up being delivered.
- Proportion of eligible first-year members offered an accessible response method and proportion choosing to respond.
- Calendar days from survey close to the club sharing a de-identified response.
- Number of improvement actions accepted, assigned and completed by their published dates.
- Change between the day-90 and first-anniversary ratings for clarity, connection and ability to make a useful contribution, reported only when the cohort is large enough.
Before we say yes
- Does it fit a real local need?
- Can people take part safely and fairly?
- Are the facts, permissions and Rotary branding right?
- Who will lead it, and when will we review it?
