Why a club might use this
Young leaders receive relevant perspective and continuity while alumni contribute through a safe, structured role.
Use it when
- Young participants in approved school or Rotary leadership programs, authorised staff and carefully selected alumni mentors. Use when an authorised youth program has identified a mentoring outcome.
Before the club starts
- Program agreement names duty-of-care owner, contact systems, meeting settings and disclosures route.
- Relevant state or territory child-related clearance and any District screening current before matching.
- Student and parent or carer consent, goals and accessibility needs managed by the authorised program.
Capacity guide
- Likely cost
- $ — screening, training, coordination and accessible meeting support.
- Lead time
- 10–14 weeks to establish; fixed 8–12 week cycle.
- People
- 1 safeguarding lead, 1 coordinator, program staff and one screened alumnus per match.
Controls and safeguards
- No private social media, personal-device messaging, home meetings, gifts or one-to-one transport.
- Mentors do not counsel or investigate disclosures; they report through the program immediately.
- CRITICAL — adult alumni mentoring minors is a high-duty-of-care activity requiring program-owned contact, screening and active supervision.
What to measure
- Screened mentors and mutually accepted matches.
Follow-up: Program staff check each side separately after the first session and midpoint; close access and mentor-held records on the agreed final date.
