Develop an overseas service project with local ownership, verified need and transparent stewardship rather than exporting a preselected solution.
What could this idea change?
Local partners control priorities and sustainability while Rotary adds accountable resources and international connections.
A simple way to start
- Ask the host community and partner to define priorities and acceptable solutions. Who could lead it: Host partner lead
- Test feasibility, local regulation, maintenance and unintended impacts. Who could lead it: Technical reviewer
- Approve funding architecture and fiduciary responsibilities. Who could lead it: Grant stewardship lead
- Deliver through local procurement and monitored milestones wherever practicable. Who could lead it: In-country project manager
- Verify outcomes and transfer long-term ownership before closure. Who could lead it: Independent evaluator
What should we look for?
- Host community endorses the selected priority and design.
Before we say yes
- Does it fit a real local need?
- Can people take part safely and fairly?
- Are the facts, permissions and Rotary branding right?
- Who will lead it, and when will we review it?
