Member Skills Map Wall

Use Member Skills Map Wall to connect members' strengths and interests with worthwhile roles that have clear boundaries.

What could this idea change?

It turns member energy into visible, organised action that is easier for other people to join.

It may suit: Members who want to build the skill, and the experienced members or facilitators helping them practice.

A simple way to start

  1. Agree the map's limited purpose and audience, test whether a less visible directory or facilitated introduction would meet the need and document prohibited uses. Who could lead it: Club board delegate and privacy contact
  2. Co-design a small set of plain-language categories and contact choices, removing fields that invite sensitive disclosure, ranking, credentials inflation or assumptions about availability. Who could lead it: Member-experience lead and member reference group
  3. Invite members to opt in, explain visibility and expiry, offer private help and return an exact preview for approval before anything is displayed. Who could lead it: Map custodian
  4. Publish only approved entries in the agreed location, restrict copying or wider access where practical and provide a visible correction and removal route. Who could lead it: Map custodian and access lead
  5. Support introductions without promising free professional services or assigning work, and require a separate role conversation for any project or formal responsibility. Who could lead it: Member-experience lead and project leads

What should we look for?

  • After 90 days, review Member Skills Map Wall. Look for roles being filled by choice, responsibilities being understood and useful work being completed without avoidable overload.
  • Displayed entries with explicit wording, audience, contact and expiry choices recorded.
  • Correction and removal requests completed within the published service standard.
  • Connections or role conversations initiated without automatic allocation or pressure to provide unpaid professional work.
  • Expired entries and source forms removed, with no sensitive or unnecessary fields retained.

Before we say yes

  • Does it fit a real local need?
  • Can people take part safely and fairly?
  • Are the facts, permissions and Rotary branding right?
  • Who will lead it, and when will we review it?
