Local Media Relationships
Build trusted, useful relationships with local journalists by understanding their audiences and reliably offering verified community stories, people and access.
What could this idea change?
Residents receive more accurate local-service information because newsrooms can reach credible sources without navigating last-minute promotion.
A simple way to start
- Map each outlet's audience, rounds, deadlines and preferred contact method. Who could lead it: Media relationship lead
- Request a listening introduction without pitching an immediate story. Who could lead it: Club spokesperson
- Record the journalist's topic and format preferences. Who could lead it: Media register custodian
- Offer one timely, evidence-backed local angle matched to those preferences. Who could lead it: Story liaison
- Respond promptly, correct errors courteously and review relationship health. Who could lead it: Communications chair
What should we look for?
- Priority local outlets have verified named contacts.
Before we say yes
- Does it fit a real local need?
- Can people take part safely and fairly?
- Are the facts, permissions and Rotary branding right?
- Who will lead it, and when will we review it?
