Family Service Weekend

Use Family Service Weekend to keep participation realistic as members move through different work, family, health and life stages.

What could this idea change?

It makes follow-up more caring and consistent, while leaving people in control of how they respond.

It may suit: Members who may welcome support or renewed contact, and the trusted club members following up.

A simple way to start

  1. Confirm the community outcome and authority with the partner, inspect the site and remove any task the club cannot safely govern. Who could lead it: Project lead and partner contact
  2. Break the work into short, meaningful roles and shifts, including accessible, seated, remote and non-work participation options. Who could lead it: Role and access lead
  3. Complete the risk, safeguarding, supervision, first-aid, insurance, weather, transport, food and emergency decisions before promoting the event. Who could lead it: Safety lead and club board sponsor
  4. Invite members and guests with accurate conditions, voluntary role choice, caregiver responsibility and private access and media routes. Who could lead it: Communications and registration leads
  5. Brief each shift, check conditions throughout, provide rest and role-change options and stop or change work when the plan no longer fits reality. Who could lead it: Shift leads and safety lead

What should we look for?

  • After 90 days, review Family Service Weekend. Look for members choosing workable forms of participation and staying connected without pressure to disclose private circumstances.
  • Partner-confirmed outcome completed to the agreed standard.
  • Participants using a mix of physical, non-physical, shorter and longer roles by choice.
  • Safety, safeguarding, access and role-change issues acted on during delivery.
  • Partner sign-off, incidents, equipment, permissions and personal information closed out on schedule.

Before we say yes

  • Does it fit a real local need?
  • Can people take part safely and fairly?
  • Are the facts, permissions and Rotary branding right?
  • Who will lead it, and when will we review it?
